There are four factors in monobloc portable air conditioning units which makes them less efficient than they should be.
Number 1, you are required to create a large hole to expel the hot air out of.
Number 2, the exhaust hose will radiate heat back into the room.
Number 3, negative air pressure is created in the room, so warm air will be pulled in where the room is not air tight.
Lastly you can usually only duct a few metres before the machines start losing efficiency.
The third one of these might leave you scratching your head – I will explain.
A portable air conditioner in a room sucks air in through two ports and transfers the heat from one air stream to another using refrigeration technology. The air stream which is having heat transferred into it is then expelled through the exhaust hose. Therefore around 50% of the air being drawn is is not being returned to the room, but sent outside. This means any non-air tight gaps around the room will suck small amounts of warm air in.
All of these problems are now somewhat solved by the development of the MCWCS250 Portable Water Cooled Split Air Conditioning Units.
The pipes are much smaller than the duct, they don’t radiate so much heat and the air pressure is neutral because 100% of the air drawn in is returned – while the heat is expelled in the water. Also the pipes can be extended to 30 metres, allowing you to use it deep in a building.
How does a Water Cooled Split work? The air drawn in is returned in full to the room, once it’s heat has been transferred to the water.
The outdoor unit cools the water by taking the heat and putting it in the air before returning it to the indoor unit as chilled water.
The connections on the indoor unit are :- Water in and out, condensate water and the electrical connection. So no emptying condensate tanks!
To sum up, water cooled split portable air conditioners like the MCWCS250 are a more efficient, greener machine to consider when using temporary or emergency cooling.
